Birthday Poems

Birthday Poems
Whenever birthdays of near and dear ones come, there is this constant racking of brains to come up with suitable lines and verses to express our deep-felt emotions. Then one wishes one were a poet, to be able to express one's emotions in suitable lines is surely a gift. I have searched far and wide for that one birthday poem which would be able to express our finest emotions and be suitable for anyone. I personally find Christina Rossetti's poem herein given as one which affected me deeply, it is the birthday poem for me.
My heart is like a singing bird
Whose nest is in a watered shoot;
My heart is like an apple tree
Whose boughs are bent with thickset fruit;
My heart is like a rainbow shell
That paddles in a purple sea;
My heart is gladder than all these
Because my love is come to me.

Raise me a dais of silk and down;
Hang it with vair and purple dyes;
Carve it in doves and pomegranates,
And peacocks with a hundred eyes;
Work it in gold and silver grapes,
In leaves and silver fleur-de-lys;
Because the birthday of my life
Is come, my love, is come to me.
Christina Rossetti (1830-1894)
